Honeysuckle Possums
A lively all-woman band featuring old-time, mountain music and bluegrass.

Listen to Honeysuckle Possums on YouTube

The Honeysuckle Possums are a high-energy, all-woman string band, playing old time mountain music, originals and bluegrass. They have been together since 2009 and have one album with a second in the works. Their music has taken them all over California and they continue to gain praise for their beautiful vocals, carefully crafted harmonies, and spirited style. Their performances at various festivals and concerts continue to elicit rave reviews.

The three lead singers are Susan Marie Reeves (guitar, strumstick, ukulele), Rebecca Troon (banjo, fiddle, bodhran, tin whistle) and Lisa Macker (stand up bass, mandolin). Charletta Erb (fiddle) joins in on harmonies. Ruth Alpert is the band’s dancing percussionist…an Appalachian-style flat-footer, who seems to float as she makes it easy for the crowd to dance and clap along.

The Possums’ intention is “to create and share bliss through music”. Their collective joy onstage is delightful, and their performances are carried on a strong current of love and friendship. “Possum” audience members often comment on how that energy is positively contagious!

Mood Swing
Dustbowl dance music: Western swing and jazz classics with the rich harmonies of twin fiddles and voices

Mood Swing, the 2019 1st Place Advanced Band Winners at the Topanga Banjo and Fiddle Contest, perform Dustbowl era dance music; a melting pot of western swing, old time country, blues and jazz classics with the rich tapestries of twin fiddles, twin guitars and three part vocal harmonies. Driven by a passion for great lyrical melodies, the band covers diverse material from Bob Wills, Flatt & Scruggs, Hank Williams, Jimmie Rodgers and Django Reinhardt, as well as performing original music.

Hailing from Ventura County, Mood Swing formed out of local jam sessions at the California State Old Time Fiddlers in Oak View and Phil Salazar’s jam in Ventura. The band features the talents of Gordon Roberts (fiddle and tenor fiddle, vocals), Charletta Erb (fiddle, vocals), Seth Oster (archtop guitar, vocals), Steve Welborn (archtop guitar, steel) and Bill Arnold (standup bass). Tickled to ham it up for the crowd, Mood Swing is expressive and energetic.

“We’re having the time of our lives and it’s contagious. We keep it light and do great material that stands the test of time and speaks to the human heart without grinding an ax.” – Gordon Roberts

Whole Hog

Char’s Music Bio

Charletta began violin lessons on a cereal box at age 5, inspired by some kids playing on Sesame Street. An earnest classical student, she learned songs both by reading and sound.  In group lessons, she studied old time music though childhood, and performed on the back of a truck bed at local fall festivals, summer camps, church, nursing homes, and in Iowa State junior honors orchestra. By high school, she took on classical guitar instruction, played first chair in orchestra, and practiced for choir while running with the cross country team (think lung expansion). In college, she favored folk music settings: Old Time jam sessions at farmer’s market, square dances, twin fiddling improvisational ecstasy, and a bluegrass band. Living a few years in London, UK, she enjoyed pub sessions with English, Irish tunes and banter. These days, you’ll find her at Old Time Fiddlers jam sessions in Oak View, California. The State Old Time Fiddlers Association just awarded her 1st place in the young adult division. When she’s not fiddling around, she works in Ventura, Santa Barbara, and Ojai as a pre-licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.
