The Honeysuckle Possums are a high-energy, all-woman string band, playing old time mountain music, originals and bluegrass. They have been together since 2009 and have one album with a second in the works. Their music has taken them all over California and they continue to gain praise for their beautiful vocals, carefully crafted harmonies, and spirited style. Their performances at various festivals and concerts continue to elicit rave reviews.
The lead singers are Susan Marie Reeves (guitar, strumstick, ukulele), Lisa Macker (stand up bass, mandolin), Charletta Erb (fiddle), and Amy Warren (stand up bass, mandolin, guitar). Ruth Alpert is the band’s dancing percussionist…an Appalachian-style flat-footer, who seems to float as she makes it easy for the crowd to dance and clap along.
The Possums’ intention is “to create and share bliss through music”. Their collective joy onstage is delightful, and their performances are carried on a strong current of love and friendship. “Possum” audience members often comment on how that energy is positively contagious!
Dustbowl dance music: Western swing and jazz classics with the rich harmonies of twin fiddles and voices
Mood Swing, the 2019 1st Place Advanced Band Winners at the Topanga Banjo and Fiddle Contest, perform Dustbowl era dance music; a melting pot of western swing, old time country, blues and jazz classics with the rich tapestries of twin fiddles, twin guitars and three part vocal harmonies. Driven by a passion for great lyrical melodies, the band covers diverse material from Bob Wills, Flatt & Scruggs, Hank Williams, Jimmie Rodgers and Django Reinhardt, as well as performing original music. Tickled to ham it up for the crowd, Mood Swing is expressive and energetic.
Hailing from Ventura County, Mood Swing formed out of local jam sessions at the California State Old Time Fiddlers in Oak View and Phil Salazar’s jam in Ventura. The band features the talents of Gordon Roberts (fiddle and tenor fiddle, vocals), Charletta Erb (fiddle, vocals), Seth Oster (archtop guitar, vocals), and Bill Arnold (standup bass).
“We’re having the time of our lives and it’s contagious. We keep it light and do great material that stands the test of time. It speaks to the human heart without grinding an ax.” – Gordon Roberts
Ventura-based trio featuring old-time roots, bluegrass, and Irish. Together, they harmonize arrangements of folk music and traditional ballads. Whole Hog is Seth Oster (guitar), Keith Frankel (banjo) and Charletta Erb (fiddle).
